How to Link Loads, Drivers, Vehicles and Delivery Commitments

October 31, 2026 by
The Operator
A delivery becomes controllable when the load, driver, vehicle and commitment are connected in one record.

THE FIRE

Disconnected records make it difficult to answer whether a delay came from dispatch, loading, route conditions, receiving readiness or the vehicle itself.

THE BLUEPRINT

1. Create one movement ID for the load and delivery commitment.
2. Attach driver, vehicle, route, planned time and release status.
3. Close with actual arrival, proof of delivery and any exception owner.

THE METRIC

Track on-time completion, unplanned reassignment, missing proof and exception closure.

Put this into practice

Have the allocating coordinator agree the period and receiving team before confirming the reservation.

Check for an existing allocation covering the same asset and period, including necessary handover time.

Begin with one example using Asset ID, Work package, Allocation start, Allocation end, Receiving team. Give the record a stable identifier and connect any unresolved issue to an owner and next action. Ask the receiving reviewer to explain the decision the record supports before expanding the process.

Open the Asset allocation schedule template and its review guidance.
